The Drug War in the United States

The United States has been struggling with how to combat the use of illegal drugs. Billions has been spent incarcerating people who use and sell drugs. Just like prohibition, the criminalization of drugs has not stopped people from using them. The United States should consider legalizing and regulating drugs. This would help pay for our massive budget deficit. In addition, it would insure that people did not use drugs cut with cheap adulterants that can endanger peoples lives. If people are concerned about the increase in drug useage that then proceeds could be used to fund a campaign to educate and prevent people from using drugs in the first place.

In addition, the people charged with drug offenses, end up having a difficult time finding a job. Illegalization creates an underground economy fueled by drugs and is devastating Mexico.
