<!–[endif]–>Nine years ago at her suburban Houston home, a nurse was brutally murdered. Michael James Perry was convicted of this murder and also stealing the woman’s red convertible. In Texas, this is considered a capital crime, and on Thursday the 28 year-old convicted killer was put to death by lethal injection, becoming the 14th prisoner executed this year in Texas. The U.S. Supreme Court rejected a last-day appeal, and Perry was executed approximately 90 minutes later. Although his lawyers argued they had new evidence showing Perry was already in jail when the victim was murdered in 2001, but prosecutors had enough evidence to convince the jury beyond a reasonable doubt of his guilt. Texas is the nation’s most active death penalty state.
