After serving 27 years in prison, Houston man, Michael Anthony Green, 45, is expected to be freed this week. He is being exonerated for a rape that prosecutors are now saying he did not commit. This is the longest time behind bars anyone in Texas has spent before being exonerated for the crime. His attorney, Bob Wicoff, will ask that he be released on bail during court today.

In recent years, seven other local men have been released after being exonerated for the crimes they had been convicted. This release also marks the second release in one week. Wicoff announced that his client is innocent, and the identity of the people who committed the crime had been identified.
In 1983, Green was sentenced to 75 years in prison for the rape of a Houston woman. The witness in the case falsely identified Green. The four men who did abduct and rape the woman have been identified. Three of the four have been convicted of other crimes and have been in prison, two of them are currently in prison. The statute of limitations has run out on the rape case, so they will not be prosecuted for their actions in 1983.
