Former University of North Texas quarterback Damon West was convicted late last week of engaging in organized crime for leading “a gang of thieves” in over 50 burglaries.
Most of the burglaries happened in Dallas while the victims were out of town, away from their homes or apartments. They broke in by drilling a hole in doors.
West faces five years to life in prison. However, since he was not been previously convicted of a felony, he will be eligible for probation.
Two other men are also facing the same charges of engaging in organized crime, and a third man has pleaded guilty to a lesser crime.
The burglaries occurred from September 2007 until after West’s arrest in July. West was still coordinating the moving and selling of the stolen merchandise even after he was charged in the burglaries according to recorded phone calls made by West in jail.
